Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games & Festival

The Adirondacks Welcome the World!

From January 12 to 22, collegiate athletes from more than 50 countries will gather in New York state’s majestic Adirondack Mountains at the Olympic Alpine Village in Lake Placid to celebrate, compete, and enjoy a one-of-a-kind winter festival experience. The 11-day international festival and competition combine high-level sport with educational and cultural events, all taking place in Lake Placid and nearby towns.

The Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games will include competitions in 12 winter sports. Collegiate athletes between the ages of 17 and 25 are eligible to enter, with teams selected by their national university sports federations.

Events will take place for the following sports: 

  • Alpine Skiing (Whiteface Mountain, Wilmington)
  • Ice hockey (Canton & Potsdam with Finals in Lake Placid)
  • Short Track Speed Skating (Olympic Center, Lake Placid)
  • Speed Skating (James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval, Lake Placid)
  • Figure Skating (Olympic Center, Lake Placid)
  • Ski Jumping (Olympic Jumping Complex, Lake Placid)
  • Snowboarding (Gore Mountain, North Creek)
  • Freestyle & Free Ski (Gore Mountain, North Creek)
  • Curling (Saranac Lake Civic Center)
  • Nordic Combined (Mt. Van Hovenberg & Olympic Jumping Complex, Lake Placid)
  • Cross-country Skiing (Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Lake Placid)
  • Biathlon (Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Lake Placid)

Lake Placid 2023 FISU Games Festival

Throughout The Games, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Main Street, Lake Placid will transform into a festival venue, closed to vehicular traffic and featuring an energetic atmosphere with FREE live music, medal ceremonies, rail jams, drone shows, games, warming domes, and much more.

Artists will take the stage in Mid's Park each evening following the 6:00 p.m. Medal Ceremony.
